Matt Chatts 'After the Show' Q&A | How to Approach Manufacturer Buydowns

After the show, one contractor from Arkansas asked:

"The current challenge I am facing is with buydown rates."

Host Matthew Bratsis started by explaining that out of all of the home service fields, only the HVAC industry relies on buydowns in a significant way. In almost all other industries, there's no such thing as manufacturer buydowns, according to Bratsis.

"In the HVAC industry, we've gotten accustomed to relying and leaning on the manufacturer to offset the cost of the dealer fees," said Bratsis. "That's the manufacturers way of making you stick with them, but it's also created a bit of a reliance on 'hey are they going to help me?'"

"Having said that, it's amazing how many contractors have a buydown and don't actually take the buydown," said Bratsis. He explained that oftentimes, its simply because contractors don't want to deal with another process, but according to Bratsis the buy-down process is not overlycomplicated and is worth it for every business owner.

"If you are eligible for a buydown shame on you for not taking the buydown," concluded Bratsis.
