Matt Chatts 'After the Show' | How the Pandemic Influenced Dealer Fees

After the latest Matt Chatts live episode, Matt Chatts hosts Matthew Bratsis and Donna Decoster and answered some questions on mitigating the effects of dealer fees on business owners' bottom line.

After the show, one contractor from Arizona asked:

"I need to know how to offer no interest payments and still afford dealer fees."

Bratsis started by taking the conversation back to the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. "Money was free. They needed to stimulate the economy, having those zero percent dealer fees was really nice." said Bratsis. "Once you train your sales team on that, they love it, because there's nothing better than zero percent interest."

Bratsis explained that when interest rates were raised after the pandemic, dealer fees were increased as well to offset the increased cost in capital. And so that means that small business owners must also raise their prices to account for the added cost of dealer fees.

"But you're missing the boat. People don't need five or six years of zero interest. What they need is a fair amount of time to not have to worry about this, and give them the time to resolve this issue," said Bratsis.

Due to this, said Bratsis, contractors need to stop worrying about how attractive they can make their financing look on paper. "They think, 'that's what we need to be competitive.' That's not what you need,"said Bratsis.

'Matt Chatts' is a contractors' best resource for staying informed in the world of contractor financing.
